Inspired by the mythological story that the queen of the Gods, persuaded Sirens to enter a singing contest with the Muses. The Muses won the competition and then plucked out all of the Sirens' feathers and made crowns out of them.
Out of their sorrow from losing the competition, the Sirens turned white and fell into the sea where they formed the islands in the bay that were called Souda--"the white ones".
Educated as a bench jeweler, Rahya received her BFA in Metals and Jewelry from Savannah College of Art and Design in 2011. She also studied at Parsons School of Design in New York City and The Art Institute of Chicago.
Originally born and raised in New Orleans, her childhood and background nurtured her passion for design. Attending New Orleans Center for Creative Arts (NOCCA), Rahya was immersed in an environment bursting with like-minded artists.
Rahya lives in New Orleans and designs in her home studio.
