Green lemonade juice

With the aid of a juicer, this powerful mixture of fruits and vegetables will knock your socks off stronger and longer than any AM caffeine and dairy drink. This recipe is taken straight out of Natalia Rose's Raw Food Detox Diet Book. I like to prepare my juices for the week on Sunday evenings, and throw them in the freezer.

1 head romaine lettuce or celery

5 to 6 stalks kale (any type)

1 to 2 cored apples (as needed for sweetness–Natalia Rose recommends organic Fuji)

1 whole organic lemon (you don't have to peel it)

1 to 2 tablespoons fresh ginger (optional)

Process all ingredients in an electric juicer.

Also taken from Natalia Rose's Detox Diet Book, this zesty and refreshing dressing will be a staple in your refrigerator. Literally this tastes amazing on everything; you will want to bathe in this stuff.

2 cups fresh lemon juice

3 whole garlic cloves

3 Tbs minced ginger

3 Tbs Nama Shoyu soy sauce (raw and gluten free)

3 Tbs raw honey or agave

1-1/2 cups cold pressed olive oil

Place all ingredients except oil in blender. Begin blending at normal speed, and slowly add the oil until it is completely blended. Lasts at least 2 weeks in your fridge, but you will use it all before then!

Adapted from the book RAWvolution by Matt Amsden, this is an easy summer recipe that is great for hosting or an easy lunch.

6 raw corn ears, shucked and cut off cobs

1 medium red onion

20 sprigs of fresh cilantro

4 tbsp cold pressed olive oil

4 tbsp curry powder

2 tbsp agave nectar

1 tsp sea salt

(1 cup fresh celery - I leave this out)

Mix olive oil, curry powder, agave and sea salt with water if needed in a small glass. Chop all ingredients to preference. Mix together, and slowly pour in curry dressing. Toss and enjoy!

Poached eggs

This is one of my favorite things to make; super easy and packed full of protein. The idea of poaching an egg may seem daunting but with a couple of my no-fail tips, they come out perfectly every single time.

I usually throw a couple poached eggs on some gluten free Udi bread with cilantro, a fresno pepper and cherry tomatoes. An egg on top of some quinoa is a perfect carb and protien fix. Make up your own recipe, you can't go wrong.

A regular ole' kitchen strainer is my first secret weapon. Crack the egg gently in the strainer and swish all the excess fluid out a couple times around over the sink. Once the water is at a rapid boil, lower the strainer in the pot, shaking the egg side to side and rolling the egg into the water. Make sure the egg does not stick to the bottom by giving it a gentle nudge. Cook for 5-7 minutes. Super easy!

This is another really important tip; use the freshest eggs you can get. Old eggs start to separate from the yolk and make a big mess in the boiling water. This is a key step to get perfect poached eggs every time, but you really should be buying farm fresh eggs EVEN when you arn't poaching them. They taste better and are much better for you. I certainly don't go to farms to get my eggs, but I make sure the eggs I buy are Texas raised.

minimalissimo MAGAZINE

I just recently discovered this publication, but it is now my go-to for a hefty dose of quality design. Be preapred to stay on this site for a while, drowning in unbelievable articles. From their website:

Minimalissimo magazine is an exploration and celebration of minimalism, aiming to inspire creatives and showcase the best in the field of design. We also aspire to offer our readers a diverse understanding of minimalism, publishing daily articles focused on art, architecture, fashion, furniture and product design.

(yes, even their website address is minimal, sans "www")

Natalia Rose is a NYC based author and raw food chef sought after by a wide variety of high profile clients. This book is the bible of detoxing your body with nutrient rich, raw food. A thorough break down of kitchen instruments, grocery store oddities and go to recipes you will use on a weekly basis. I always keep this book close by to use recipes or get back on track with my healthy eating. Purchase The Raw Food Detox Diet by Natalia Rose on Amazon.

The Complete Metalsmith is another go to I keep close by. This relatively small book covers nearly every jewelry or metalsmith technique under the sun. With almost chlid-like drawings, the book's instructions on expert level skills are easy to understand and easy to relate to. I had the honor of meeting Tim in college, and my only regret being him not signing my copy. If you are interested in learning about the jewelry making process, or even want to hone in on your existing skills, this book is a great tool to have. Purchase The Complete Metalsmith by Tim McCreight on Rio Grande.

Using this should come as easily and be as important to you as brushing your teeth. Originally discovered as a acne treatment, this topical cream is a potent form of vitamin A that helps and encourages your skin to renew itself. I've always felt this medication is the gym for my face; it keeps everything tight, smooth and in shape. After not using it for a week, my skin is noticeably less bright and vibrant. Extremely expensive, and also a prescription, you MUST use sunscreen religiously if you do not already. Ask your doctor about using it--you'll never look back.

This is something I wish I had made so many years ago. Each of the three ingredients serving important roles in the mixture, the activated charcoal, local honey and diatomaceous earth mixture will be something you will include in your beauty routine for years to come. Activated charcoal draws bacteria, poisons, chemicals, dirt and other micro-particles to the surface of skin, helping you to achieve a flawless complexion and fight acne. Diatomaceous earth made almost entirely out of natural silica, serves as a fantastic natural abrasive. Local honey is going to boost your ability to fight off those seasonal allergies, heavily moisturize your skin and provide a natural antibacterial for acne prone skin with tons of antioxidants. Mix an equal amount of each, mixing together with your finger. Gently spread on your face and wash off after it has completely dried.

Moroccan Hammam Bath Scrub Glove

I honestly don't even know how I discovered this miracle product. I keep this in my shower and use about once a week. It keeps my skin super-super soft by exfoliating on an out of this world level. The gentle texture of this glove is especially designed to exfoliate and unclog pores by removing dead skin cells, toxins and impurities to reveal the skins natural glow. After the dead skin cells are removed, the body is enhanced for the absorption of nourishing moisturizers. I believe this is a traditional accessory of the Moroccan Hammam Spa ritual, where you are scrubbed down from head to toe and everywhere in between. I am a regular spray tan user, and this is the perfect product to help keep the tan on longer, as well as fade away evenly. If nothing else, I use this on my face, gently, in a circular motion. Buy on Ebay for dirt cheap!

The bath glove brings me to my next beauty item; Bondi Sands self tanning products. This line of self tanners is amazing. I am not sure you can even purchase them directly in the US yet, as I order mine from Australia. The color of these tans are amazing, they don't have that gross nauseating DHA smell and they last for at least a week. From someone who would regularly get profesional spray tans every week, this is far more convenient, cost effective and the color is so much better without the smell. Staying out of the sun is really important to me, but having a healthy glow on my olive skin is crucial to not looking sickly. For less than $20, you should give this product a shot. I can't say enough good about it. Buy Bondi Sands here.

food grade diatomaceous earth

The MVP of ingredients in my face mask recipe, this hidden health gem offers a laundry list of amazing health benefits. I often mix a couple of teaspoons in with some almond milk while headed out the door for an easy health boost. Click on over to the amazing Texas based Global Healing Center Website for more information and purchase options.

1. Natural Source of Silica

Food-grade diatomaceous earth is composed of approximately 85% silica. This important, trace mineral is required by tendons, cartilage, blood vessels, and bones. The nutrient even contributes to almost every vital organ, including the heart, liver, and lungs. Food was the primary source of naturally-occurring silica before modern farming practices depleted the soil. It is suggested that only 1/3 of the silica we need is available in natural, plant-based foods.

2. Promotes Skin Health

Because diatomaceous earth is a strong abrasive, it is often used as a toothpaste and facial exfoliator. The process of exfoliation is important in skin care as it helps to remove dead skin cells that may give the appearance of tired, worn-out skin. The product’s natural silica content is also necessary for healthy skin, teeth, hair, and nails, and the product is often touted as a potent beauty mineral.

3. Supports Heart Health

Research has also shown that food-grade diatomaceous may offer positive benefits for cholesterol levels and encourage heart health. Nutrients such as silicon, calcium, sodium, magnesium, iron, and other trace minerals are available in diatomaceous earth, giving rise to a practically endless supply of health benefits. Most of these nutrients play a role in building and repairing of muscles and bones.

4. Natural Pesticide

One of the most common uses for diatomaceous earth is as a natural insecticide. Studies indicate that this clay-like powder can kill the harmful insects that threaten crops and home life. Due to the incessant use of pesticides, many insects have become resistant to chemical deterrents. This organic pest control method is helpful for reducing the amount of environmental toxins we’re all exposed to.

5. Internal Cleanser

Diatomaceous earth acts as a mild abrasive both topically and internally. Inside your body, it helps remove intestinal invaders and other harmful organisms from the digestive tract. As an internal cleanser, diatomaceous earth may aid cleansing by supporting regularity and assisting in the removal of toxic metals. Some studies have shown diatomaceous earth to be very successful in ridding animals of harmful organisms. Food-grade diatomaceous earth placed in the feed of livestock may help discourage fleas and other harmful bugs. Make sure that all diatomaceous earth is labeled “food grade” and is untreated and unheated! The mineral is available in supplement form, both by itself and blended with other ingredients.
